Archéologue français né en 1947 à Casablanca (Maroc).
Après des études à l'ENSAE, il travaille pendant quinze ans 
en tant que consultant, avant de se lancer en 1991 dans l'archéologie 
sous-marine au large des Philippines où il s'enrichit de la vente des
découvertes faites sur les épaves. Il fonde en 1985 l'Institut Européen 
d'Archéologie Sous Marine. Il a participé à des fouilles d'épaves au 
large d'Alexandrie.

La Nef du Grand Palais accueille, du 9 décembre 2006 au 16 mars 2007, 
une exposition de près de 500 objets exceptionnels découverts au cours 
de fouilles sous-marines menées par une équipe d’archéologues dirigée 
depuis plus de dix ans par Franck Goddio, grâce au soutien de la 
Fondation Hilti, retraçant l'histoire de l'Égypte, des derniers pharaons 
à Alexandre le Grand, des conquêtes helléniques à l'empire romain et de 
l'ère chrétienne à la montée de l'Islam.

Archaeological projects in Egypt 
Hilti Foundation has supported the underwater archaeological projects of 
Franck Goddio and his team since 1996. The work completed in the Harbor 
of Alexandria and the Bay of Aboukir have led to spectacular finds and 
historical discoveries. The great successes are based on professional and 
comprehensive research methods. They begin with initial research in archives 
that helps plan and execute the underwater excavation, and also include the 
subsequent scientific processing of the finds. Franck Goddio is supported by 
a team of scientists, underwater excavation specialists and other professionals 
that ensure well-founded scientific processes. 
The efforts aimed at publishing new information and making exhibitions and 
films accessible to the general public is a further goal of both Franck Goddio 
and the foundation.
